Author Guidelines

International Journal of Innovation in Teaching and Learning Technology welcomes high-quality scholarly manuscripts that contribute significantly to the advancement of mathematics education. Authors are required to prepare and submit manuscripts in accordance with the following guidelines. Manuscripts that do not comply with the journal's requirements may be returned to the authors for revision or rejected during the initial editorial screening.

1. Manuscript Types

The journal accepts the following types of manuscripts:

a. Original Research Article

Original empirical research presenting novel findings that contribute to mathematics education theory, research, policy, or practice.

b. Review Article

Critical and comprehensive reviews of established research, theories, methodologies, or emerging developments in mathematics education.

c. Systematic Literature Review

Systematic and transparent synthesis of existing scholarly literature addressing a clearly defined research question or topic.

d. Meta-Analysis

Quantitative synthesis of findings from multiple independent studies using appropriate statistical procedures and methodological standards.

All submitted manuscripts must demonstrate a clear contribution to the field of mathematics education and align with the journal's Focus and Scope.

2. Language

Manuscripts must be written in clear, concise, and academically appropriate English. Authors are responsible for ensuring that manuscripts are grammatically correct and professionally written before submission.

Authors whose first language is not English are encouraged to have their manuscripts professionally proofread or reviewed by a qualified English-language editor before submission.

3. Manuscript Length

Manuscripts should generally contain approximately 6,000–10,000 words, including the main text and excluding references, tables, figures, and supplementary materials, unless otherwise approved by the Editor.

Authors should prioritize clarity, relevance, and scholarly contribution rather than length alone.

4. Title

The title should be:

• concise, specific, and informative;

• accurately reflect the content of the manuscript;

• avoid unnecessary abbreviations and jargon; and

• clearly indicate the main topic, population, context, or research focus where appropriate.

5. Authors and Affiliations

The manuscript should provide the following information for all authors:

• full name of each author;

• institutional affiliation;

• department or study program, where applicable;

• city and country;

• institutional or professional email address; and

• ORCID iD, where available.

All individuals listed as authors must have made a substantial contribution to the research and must approve the final version of the manuscript.

The corresponding author is responsible for communication with the Editorial Office throughout the submission, review, and publication process.

6. Abstract

The manuscript must include an abstract of approximately 200–250 words.

The abstract should provide a concise and informative summary of the study and should generally include:

• Background – the context and research problem;

• Purpose – the objective or research question;

• Method – the research design, participants/data sources, and analytical approach;

• Results – the principal findings; and

• Conclusion – the main implications or contribution of the study.

The abstract should be understandable independently of the main manuscript and should not contain citations, tables, figures, or unexplained abbreviations.

7. Keywords

Authors should provide 3–7 keywords or key phrases that accurately represent the main concepts of the manuscript.

Keywords should be specific, relevant to the field of mathematics education, and useful for indexing and information retrieval.

8. Manuscript Structure

For original research articles, manuscripts should generally follow the structure below:

The structure may be adapted for review articles, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses according to the methodological characteristics of each manuscript type.

9. Introduction

The Introduction should clearly establish:

• the research background and context;

• the research problem or knowledge gap;

• the relevance and significance of the study;

• the current state of relevant scholarship;

• the research objectives or questions; and

• the expected contribution of the study.

Authors should avoid excessive general background information and clearly demonstrate how the study addresses an identified gap in mathematics education research.

10. Literature Review and Theoretical Framework

The literature review should critically synthesize relevant and recent scholarly literature rather than merely summarize previous studies.

Authors should:

• use authoritative and relevant academic sources;

• identify key theories and concepts;

• discuss relevant previous research;

• identify gaps or unresolved issues; and

• establish a clear theoretical or conceptual foundation for the study.

11. Methods

The Methods section must provide sufficient detail to allow readers to understand and evaluate the research process and, where applicable, reproduce the study.

Depending on the research design, authors should clearly report:

• research design and approach;

• research setting and context;

• participants or data sources;

• sampling procedures;

• research instruments;

• data collection procedures;

• validity and reliability procedures, where applicable;

• data analysis techniques;

• ethical considerations; and

• other methodological information relevant to the study.

For research involving human participants, authors must comply with applicable ethical standards and provide an ethical approval statement or relevant ethical information, where required.

12. Results

The Results section should present findings clearly and objectively. Results should be directly related to the research questions or objectives.

Tables, figures, statistical analyses, and other forms of evidence should be presented accurately and should not unnecessarily duplicate information provided in the main text.

13. Discussion

The Discussion should interpret the findings in relation to:

• the research questions or objectives;

• relevant theories and previous studies;

• similarities and differences with existing research;

• theoretical or practical implications; and

• limitations and possible directions for future research.

The Discussion should go beyond simply repeating the results and should explain the significance of the findings for mathematics education.

14. Conclusion

The Conclusion should provide a concise synthesis of the principal findings and their implications. It should directly address the research objectives or questions and should be supported by the evidence presented in the manuscript.

Authors may include recommendations for educational practice, policy, research, or future studies where appropriate.

15. Tables and Figures

Tables and figures should:

• be numbered consecutively;

• have clear and descriptive titles or captions;

• be referenced in the main text;

• be of appropriate quality and readability; and

• be original or properly credited to the source.

Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material where required.

16. References and Citation Style

International Journal of Innovation in Teaching and Learning Technology uses the APA 7th Edition referencing and citation style.

Authors should ensure that:

• all sources cited in the text appear in the reference list;

• all references listed are cited in the manuscript;

• DOI information is included whenever available;

• references are accurate and complete;

• current and authoritative scholarly sources are prioritized; and

• references are managed consistently throughout the manuscript.

At least 25 relevant references are recommended for research articles. Authors are encouraged to use recent scholarly literature, with approximately 80% of references preferably published within the last 10 years, where relevant and appropriate to the topic.

Authors are encouraged to use recognized reference management software such as Zotero, Mendeley, or EndNote.

17. Data Availability

Authors should provide a Data Availability Statement indicating whether the data supporting the findings are publicly available, available upon reasonable request, restricted due to ethical or legal considerations, or not applicable.

Where appropriate, authors are encouraged to make research data, materials, instruments, or other supporting resources accessible through reputable repositories.

18. Funding Information

All sources of financial support for the research must be disclosed. If the research received no specific funding, authors should explicitly state that the study received no external funding.

19. Conflict of Interest

Authors must disclose any financial, professional, personal, or institutional relationships that could reasonably be perceived as influencing the research or its interpretation.

If no conflict of interest exists, authors should include an appropriate statement indicating that there are no conflicts of interest to declare.

20. Research and Publication Ethics

Authors must comply with generally accepted standards of research integrity and publication ethics.

Manuscripts must:

• be original and not previously published;

• not be simultaneously submitted to another journal;

• properly acknowledge and cite all sources;

• accurately report research findings;

• not contain fabricated or falsified data;

• comply with applicable ethical requirements; and

• disclose relevant conflicts of interest and funding sources.

The journal may use plagiarism or similarity-detection software as part of the editorial screening process.

21. Submission and Peer Review

All manuscripts must be submitted through the journal's designated online submission system. Manuscripts that meet the initial editorial requirements will undergo a double-blind peer review process by at least two independent reviewers with relevant expertise.

Authors should ensure that the manuscript file intended for peer review does not contain information that directly reveals the authors' identities.

Authors are expected to respond professionally and comprehensively to reviewer comments when revisions are requested.

22. Final Responsibility

Submission of a manuscript to International Journal of Innovation in Teaching and Learning Technology indicates that the authors have read, understood, and agreed to comply with these Author Guidelines and the journal's publication ethics policies.

The Editorial Board reserves the right to request revisions, return manuscripts that do not meet the journal's requirements, or reject manuscripts that fail to satisfy the journal's academic, methodological, ethical, or editorial standards.
